The purpose of this atlas is to provide images, figures, and a short summary of diseases described in the Red Book for students, residents, and practicing physicians. High quality images are compiled from a variety of sources but mainly the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The previous edition was published in 2022. Purpose This is a companion to the 33rd edition of the Red Book and provides a shorter summary of the clinical disease, epidemiology, treatment, and precautions filled with useful clinical images, epidemiologic figures, and salient tables to augment the content of the Red Book. The book achieves its aim to augment the content of the Red Book and is a worthy companion providing useful images. Audience The intended audience are those looking for images and learning about pediatric infectious diseases at all levels of training and practice. It serves as a graphical reference for common and uncommon pediatric infectious diseases while providing a shorter text summary of what is found in the Red Book, and as a result can act as an initial reference, although it does not go into as much detail as the Red Book. The editor, Tina Tan, is a pediatric infectious disease physician and president of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). Features This book is organized by disease or organism alphabetically and totals 168 chapters. Each chapter covers clinical manifestations, etiology, epidemiology, diagnostic tests, treatment, infection prevention, and control measures in health care settings. Unlike the Red Book, images and relevant figures are shown derived from the CDC or AAP. Images range from microscopic slides, clinical photos of disease, life cycle figures of organisms and parasites, and radiology imaging examples of clinical cases. Some chapters have salient tables. Tables include summaries of various things such as treatment or prevention measures or disease association with various ticks. There is also a comprehensive index arranged alphabetically. Assessment This reference book containing salient high-quality images of a variety of nature is helpful for those wanting a reference for pediatric infectious diseases. It also contains brief disease summaries that highlight salient points found in its companion the Red Book. This is a necessary update giving the rapidly shifting infectious disease landscape and serves its purpose in providing graphical examples of items discussed in the Red Book. The editing of this work provides a comprehensive companion to the Red Book and will be an excellent resource to learners and practicing providers alike.
