Purpose The purpose of this book is to serve as the first go-to resource for physicians when they are unsure or need confirmation while making a diagnosis. Audience The book's audience includes pediatricians, family physicians, general dermatologists, and residents of these specialties who desire to improve their pediatric dermatology skills. The authors make suggestions when physicians should refer patients to pediatric dermatologists. Features This book is a thoughtfully organized color atlas designed for making diagnoses by matching what physicians visualize in the office with color clinical photographs grouped by lesional categories and etiologies. Similarly appearing conditions are contrasted in boxes that highlight differentiating features. Overall, the photographs are of excellent quality and have enough detail that readers can make an educated diagnosis with accuracy. The book provides light microscopy images for loose anagen syndrome, but such images would be helpful for all the hair disorders discussed. The book lists online websites to which patients may be referred for additional useful information about the disease or condition, which is a unique feature of this book. Assessment This book is a nice companion to the more in-depth, encyclopedic pediatric tomes. It offers an expedient and efficient means of quick diagnosis and treatment. The format is clean, concise, and includes plenty of space to write notes.
