| The book focuses on ENT infections. It consists of seven parts, including general topics such as antibiotics in ENT infections and antibiotic resistance. It is then divided anatomically into sections on ear infections, nasal (and sinus) infections, neck (and glands) infections, head and neck cancer-related infections, and a part entirely dedicated to COVID-19. The specific focus on antibiotic resistance in ENT infections is extremely important as this becomes a serious and alarming problem. The chapters are clearly written and well-organized. Some of the imaging figures are not of sufficient quality and do not always clearly indicate the pathological finding (the book addresses various audiences with a wide range of CT image interpretation skills for example). The section addressing ear infections is exceptionally well-written; however, it would benefit from tables with medication dosing (for both children and adults). A chapter related to antibiotic allergy in ENT infections and acceptable alternatives as a general overview, and current vaccines and future vaccines relevant to this topic would benefit the book, as there is much progress in those fields. |

Assessment

| The book is of high quality and can be beneficial to its target audience. It is comparable to selected chapters from well-known pediatrics books such as Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics, 22nd Edition, Kliegman et al. (Elsevier, 2024), Principles and Practice of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, 6th Edition, Long et al. (Elsevier, 2022) and relevant review articles in Pediatrics in Review. This second edition is needed due to significant changes in the field and, of course, the occurrence of the COVID-19 pandemic in between the two editions. I recommend it to colleagues, fellows (ID and ENT), and pediatric residents especially for topics related to common infections in children such as acute otitis media, sinusitis, and mastoiditis. |
