| The is a compact book that provides information essential to all medical students, regardless of their ultimate choice of specialty (surgical or non-surgical). The book is unique in its choice of audience and its objectives, as most textbooks of surgery are intended for surgical trainees. Editors and authors have taken care to provide the most essential information on each topic, so that the textbook can be used during the third-year medical student surgery clerkships. It will also serve as a useful reference for those students going into surgery or into primary care disciplines where a knowledge of surgery is important. |

| This is a unique and extremely high-quality book, written by experts in surgical education and intended for use by medical students during their surgery clerkship. Other textbooks of surgery are generally either intended for surgical trainees and hence contain more information than can be absorbed during a clerkship, or are "pearl" books, filled with isolated facts. The accompanying multiple-choice questions provide an opportunity for review. This is a beautifully organized, authoritatively written, and nicely illustrated textbook. The updated edition is justified because of rapid advancements in the field of surgery. |
