Description
This is the fifth edition of a classic textbook in pediatric pathology. It covers a range of topics seen in pediatric pathology including pediatric autopsy, perinatal and placenta pathology, developmental pathology, as well as neoplastic and non-neoplastic entities encountered in the pediatric population. The fourth edition was published in 2016. |
Purpose
This book aims to be a comprehensive resource for pathologists whose work includes pediatric specimens. It serves as a source for everything that would be needed in the daily practice of a pediatric pathologist, or someone who encounters pediatric specimens, as well as providing the foundational facts for pathology trainees. |
Audience
This book serves a wide range of pathologists including those practicing specialized pediatric pathology, surgical pathologists who may encounter pediatric pathology cases or specimens in their practice, as well as pathologists in training. |
Features
This book describes multiple aspects of pediatric pathology over 28 chapters that are separated into two main sections: general pathology (including autopsy, inborn errors of metabolism, and others), and organ system pathology. Each chapter contains a general overview followed by subheadings and detailed descriptions of diagnoses. Numerous high-quality gross and microscopic images and tables are included. A list of useful references is included at the end of each chapter. Substantial revisions and updates have been made to this edition with special emphasis on the latest knowledge that has clinical implications. As such, sections have been expanded or added, ranging from developmental disorders of the lung to molecular genetics, classifications and understanding of tumors, and COVID-19. |
Assessment
This book is an essential resource for those who encounter pediatric pathology. While the fifth edition came relatively quickly after the fourth, the key evolving areas including molecular diagnostics and the emerging findings related to COVID-19 infection are included and updated. Like the fourth edition, this edition is well organized, making it easy to find specific information, and includes detailed descriptions, numerous high-quality images and figure captions, as well as pertinent differential diagnoses. Stocker and Dehner's remains one of the most comprehensive resources available for pediatric pathologists and pathologists in training. |
