| The book covers all the various fields within movements disorders: hypokinetic disorders, hyperkinetic disorders, ataxias, paroxysmal disorders, sleep-related disorders, metabolic and drug-induced movement disorders as well as psychiatric and functional movement disorders. Readers should be aware that while all movement disorders are covered, there is a large focus on Parkinson's disease. There is a dedicated section for anatomy that describes the various structures affected in movement disorders as well as dedicated chapters for neuropathology, genetics, and metabolic disturbances. The book also includes chapters for treatments such as wearables as well as updates in imaging within the fields. Many topics are covered in multiple chapters through unique lenses; for example, neuro-ophthalmology in movement disorders covers eye examination findings found in the various movement disorders. The book includes a large amount of excellent quality graphs and figures that help supplement the text. Arguably the best supplemental feature is the large library of online videos that accompanies the text. |

Assessment

| This book is an excellent keystone resource for anyone providing care to movement disorder patients or conducting research in the field. The other comparable book in the field, Principles and Practice of Movement Disorders, 3rd Edition, Jankovic et al. (Elsevier, 2022), is primarily written by pan-American contributors which contrasts with the completely international overview and authorship found in this book. As research is growing exponentially in this field, there likely will need to be updated versions every five to ten years to reflect the most current accepted literature. This book is recommended to any practicing movement disorder physicians wanting to learn further about the latest updates from recognized leaders in the field. |
