Description
The book provides very concise, evidence based, direct recommendations for treatments of all adult's and children's medical problems, presented in a method based on systems of the organs and clinical specialties, and with the aim of providing practical treatment options, rather than pathophysiology. The book is organized in an understandable manner throughout and contains clear headings, bullet points for treatment options, drug dose tables, and clinical pearls that summarize the most clinically relevant information for each drug and treatment, allowing rapid retrieval of this information from point of care.

Purpose
This book was created for the purpose of providing current, evidence-based therapy recommendations to physicians who treat both common and complicated illnesses. This is very important in today's world, where treatment options continue to expand at a very rapid pace. The 2026 version has fulfilled this purpose using current guidelines, newly approved medications, and changing standards of care. It has retained its emphasis on providing clinicians with practical information for day-to-day practice rather than exhaustive review, therefore increasing its usefulness as a resource for practicing clinicians.

Audience
The target audience of the book includes practicing physicians, residents, and advanced practice providers involved in direct patient care, particularly in family medicine and internal medicine. The authors are experts in their fields.

Features
This reference book includes medical, surgical, psychiatric, and preventive care subjects, placing greater weight on pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatment methods. Those sections that deal with cardiovascular disease, infectious disease, and metabolic disorders are particularly strong in that their recommendations, as presented in this text, clearly mirror established guidelines published within the last five years. The use of tables to summarize first-line and alternative treatment options is also valuable in making treatment decisions easier. Illustrations within this book are sparse; however, this is certainly consistent with its therapeutic orientation. The references incorporated in this text are limited yet pertinent and current. A minor deficiency of this reference book is that certain subspecialty topics do not offer the same level of detail as more focused subspecialty texts; however, this is in keeping with the stated objective of being a comprehensive textbook providing a variety of therapeutic approaches.

Assessment
Overall, this book is an appropriate and useful resource for healthcare providers in clinical practice. It is a more focused and concise resource than some of the more comprehensive sources of reference, like *Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine*, 21st Edition, Loscalzo et al. (McGraw Hill, 2023) and therefore allows for more rapid review. The 2026 version replaces previous editions based on substantial updates to clinical practice guidelines and changes to pharmacotherapy, warranting the need to refer to this edition. This book will remain an excellent reliable and resourceful tool for clinical practitioners.
