Description
| Now in its twelfth edition, this classic book is updated with the recognition that up to date scientific, evidence-based information is essential to quality patient care. The book, structured in outline format, continues to provide contemporary information to guide safe, effective nursing care. The previous edition was published in 2019. |
Purpose
| The book provides an easy-to-read outline format to enhance access to information needed to provide evidence-based nursing care to patients with a variety of conditions occurring across the lifespan. It offers updated information on diagnostic testing, medical care, nursing care, new medications, and best practices. |
Audience
| The book will be particularly interesting to practicing clinicians working with clients across the lifespan. It would be extremely useful to nursing students, professional nurses, staff development professionals, and nursing faculty. Over 70 expert contributors and reviewers each hold nursing professorships or are practicing clinicians. |
Features
| The book is divided into three parts containing 53 chapters. It is organized in outline format. Each subheading follows both medical and nursing models. From the perspective of the medical model, it describes for each condition pathophysiology, etiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic evaluation, management, and complications. Using the nursing model, the book addresses nursing assessment, nursing interventions, patient education and health maintenance, as well as evaluation (expected outcomes). Tables, figures, and "clinical judgment" boxes enhance the text. Each chapter is also well referenced for further reading. |

Assessment
| While there are many books that provide information about medical and nursing care of patients with a variety of conditions, this classic text represents a comprehensive compendium of both, written for practicing nurses and nursing students alike. Lippincott's "thePoint" allows access to the text through smart phones, adding to its portability. |
