Description
This book provides a breakdown of ocular pathologies by tissue, supplemented by pictures of clinical presentation and diagnostic testing when applicable. It covers a wide range of trauma-related and pathological conditions that can present in the anterior segment, posterior segment, and neurological tissues. This is the eighth edition. |
Purpose
The purpose of this textbook is to provide a summary of ocular diseases and a logical breakdown of how to recognize, diagnose, and treat/manage them. |
Audience
This book is primarily written for medical students, optometry students, residents, and practicing ophthalmologists as many of the contributing authors are physicians. Nonetheless, as optometry and ophthalmology overlap in diagnosis, treatment, and management, it is a valuable tool for optometrists caring for patients with ocular disease. |
Features
The book describes and depicts a variety of clinical findings of the orbit, specifically those which are eye diseases. The book outlines ocular diseases in 10 subsections, going from adnexa to retina. It also has a section dedicated to trauma-related ocular injuries. Most diseases are supplemented by images of clinical presentation in the slit lamp and, when applicable, secondary images of diagnostic technology. The final chapter reviews imaging for ophthalmologists; however, with the evolution of optometry's role in primary eye care, some of these tests are applicable to optometry as well, pending state jurisdictions. There is an appendix at the end of the book to allow for easy navigation of ocular diseases and their management. The book includes an online access code. |
Assessment
This textbook is organized in a way that allows it to be clinically relevant and easily accessible during patient care. It is heavily influenced by ophthalmology for ophthalmologists; however, optometry continues to benefit from applicable knowledge as the profession evolves. |
