Purpose The purpose of this book is to provide current standards for the official Joint Commission accreditation of clinical laboratories and point-of-care testing programs. These are worthy objectives, well met by this edition. Audience This book is intended for anyone involved in Joint Commission accreditation of a clinical laboratory and/or point-of-care testing program. This includes laboratorians, healthcare organization executives, and personnel overseeing overall regulatory activities. This book meets the needs of its intended audience. Features This 2023 edition retains the familiar (heavy duty) spiral-bound paperback format, with key sections clearly delineated by labeled tabs. It serves well as a guide for the many standards, a necessary compliance for quality laboratory operations. My quibbles are very minor and simply concern formatting. The next edition should consider using high contrast on the tab labels (the white font on the yellow tabs is more difficult to read than the white font on the dark blue tabs), and explore alternate presentation formats for the flow diagrams so the font in the flow diagram is larger than what appears to be four-point font (e.g., page ACC-35, Figure 2; page AXD-2, Figure 1).
