Description
Just as the title states, this is an introduction to the theory, practice, and management of performance and quality improvement processes in healthcare organizations. This edition includes access to a website with student resources. The previous edition was published in 2012.
Purpose
The purpose is to prepare students for performance improvement expectations in future careers. The online resources do add value. For example, allowing students to work on performance improvement data entry and analysis in a real life scenario is always helpful.
Audience
The authors state in the preface that students who use the tools and methods in this book could be light years ahead of others. The book is easy to follow and understand, evolving at a reasonable pace for students.
Features
This book covers a lot. Parts I and II are intended for use by students in technology-level health professions programs, while part III is intended for use by students in management-level programs. The charts/graphs/visuals throughout are of high quality and easy to understand. The table of contents is offered in a brief version and in a more detailed version, which is helpful for the intended audience.
Assessment
The quality of this book is superb. It is thorough and perfect for students. The website resources didn't meet all my expectations, but are still valuable. The update is necessary as performance improvement in healthcare seems to be an ever-evolving subject.
