Description
The third edition of this book maintains the high quality presentation of information on nuclear pharmacy practice that was established by previous editions and provides a comprehensive update on new imaging drugs and techniques, revisions of regulations, new radiation safety recommendations, and additional illustrations in color.
Purpose
The purpose is to provide a comprehensive introductory book on the chemical, physical, and biological properties of radiopharmaceuticals and their current use in nuclear medicine. The book meets these important objectives, not just for introductory students, but also for advanced students.
Audience
It is intended for students in nuclear pharmacy, nuclear medicine, and nuclear medicine technology. It is also an excellent update for advanced students and clinical practitioners. The authors and contributors are well known and accomplished in the field.
Features
The first of the book's three sections covers basic principles of radiation physics, radiation safety, radiation biology, and radiation chemistry. Section 2 explores daily issues in a nuclear pharmacy practice, and section 3 is devoted to a discussion of the development and use of diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals in current practice. The former chapter on radiation chemistry has been divided into three chapters for easier use and reference, and four new chapters have been added. The format has been changed to two columns of text on glossy paper with color tables, charts, and figures that greatly enhance the book.
Assessment
This is the most comprehensive book on basic radioactive principles, nuclear pharmacy practice activities, diagnostic and therapeutic drug preparation and utilization, radiation safety, and nuclear regulations for nuclear pharmacists in the United States. It is an excellent teaching textbook for students and a valuable reference for practitioners.
