Description
This supplemental review of hundreds of pharmaceutical calculations provides excellent reinforcement of clinical calculations and may be used both by instructors and by pharmacy students preparing for their NAPLEX exam.
Purpose
With its many examples designed to develop proficiency in commonly encountered clinical calculations, the book will be used by students as a self-paced review and for preparation for the NAPLEX exam. Instructors may use it to augment and reinforce material taught in their pharmacy calculations courses.
Audience
Although it was designed with pharmacy students and instructors in mind, clinicians also will benefit from this book. The authors are respected in their field and they make it a point to include other excellent references to help enrich the material.
Features
A well-organized table of contents begins the book. Each chapter starts off with an introduction to the concepts pertaining to the calculations. What follows is a diverse collection of clinical calculations including osmolarity, isotonicity, drug dosing, infusion rate dosing, desensitization tapering, and, finally, an excellent overview of calculations pertaining to total parenteral nutrition (TPN). Practice problems throughout have answer keys with step-by step explanations, while a practice question section appears at the end of the book.
Assessment
Students, instructors, and clinicians will appreciate what this book has to offer. It is useful as a practice workbook for those wishing to fine-tune their calculation skills, and it is an excellent resource for pharmacy students preparing for their NAPLEX exam and for instructors wishing to supplement the material taught in the pharmacy curriculum.
