Description
This is the 19th edition of a reference on pediatric antimicrobial therapy that organizes the therapies by medication and by disease. First published in 1975, this edition has been updated to include rating systems for strength of recommendation as well as level of supporting evidence for a treatment.
Purpose
The purpose is to provide practical and evidence-based recommendations for antimicrobial therapy for children with infectious diseases.
Audience
Although written for practitioners in any specialty who may encounter patients with infectious diseases, the book is especially helpful for general pediatricians who, on a daily basis, care for children with infectious diseases.
Features
The book attempts to cover most infectious diseases that occur in children as well as the antimicrobial therapies to treat them. It is very useful and small enough to keep close at hand for frequent reference. Organized by disease entity as well as by drug name, it is designed to make accessing the information very easy.
Assessment
This is an excellent reference for antimicrobial therapy. The new rating system for strength of recommendation and level of supporting evidence that is new to this edition is very useful and assists in the decision-making process in the clinical setting.
