Description
This is the fourth edition of a supplementary manual intended to explain changes in the TNM staging system and thus encourage uniform usage. |
Purpose
The purpose is to assist in correct TNM classification of tumors of all sites in accordance with the latest revision of the TNM staging manual. Because accurate tumor staging is central to treatment, prognosis, and research, and because staging is an evolving system, a manual such as this is valued and needed. The book amply meets the authors' objectives. |
Audience
It is written for specialists and will probably be of greatest value to tumor registrars. It should also be available, as a reference, for clinicians taking care of patients with complex oncologic situations. The authors are all highly credible authorities; they represent an international viewpoint and the book is published under the aegis of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). |
Features
The book clearly indicates what material is new in this edition by the standard device of a line along the left-hand margin of the text. An introductory chapter is followed by notes of specific anatomic sites and an extensive section on new TNM classifications recommended for testing and optional proposals for testing. A particularly useful feature is the final chapter on frequently asked questions, which is divided into general and site-specific questions. |
Assessment
This is a unique resource that will be invaluable for those intimately involved with staging. Changes in the TNM system amply justify this new edition. |
