Purpose The purpose is to educate readers about respiratory critical care and the nuances of mechanical ventilation. Books in critical care are always needed. Audience This book was created for respiratory therapy students and clinicians caring for patients on mechanical ventilatory support primarily in the critical care arena. Features The book covers respiratory critical care including patient assessment, respiratory failure physiology and management, ventilator principles, critical care and portable ventilators, mode selection, airway management, specialized ventilators, and important aspects to mechanical ventilation. Chapters begin with an outline followed by objectives, an overview, and key terms. Color diagrams, images, tables and boxes, respiratory care insights, and clinical focus sections help reinforce chapter material to the readers. The book is well written and has no shortcomings. Assessment This outstanding book is easy to read for respiratory care students yet detailed enough for seasoned practitioners. As technology and advancements in pulmonary physiology continue to evolve, I hope that the authors will update this text with future editions. Well done!
