Purpose
The field of public health preparedness and emergency management has evolved with the appearance of new local, national, and global threats; new legislation; and new knowledge and methods to prepare, manage, investigate, and recover from public health threats and emergencies. This book was written as an introduction to this field, reflecting the changes in public health preparedness and emergency management in recent years.

The intended audience is both undergraduate and graduate students. No previous exposure to the field of public health preparedness and emergency management is necessary. Students with more advanced knowledge of the field will also find much of interest because chapters succinctly bring together information from many different sources and analyze the response to recent well-known public health threats and natural and man-made disasters.
