Description
Dealing with this four-volume dermatology book is a powerful workout, both mentally and physically. Weighing approximately 70 lbs. (31 kg), this text is an amazing definitive reference on virtually everything known about dermatology. The previous edition was published in 2016.
Purpose
The purpose of the book is to serve as THE preeminent dermatologic resource for dermatologists throughout the world.
Audience
The audience is dermatologists.
Features
This newly updated tenth edition was desperately needed given the discovery of new entities, COVID related skin manifestations, and new biologic therapies. The depth of explanations in this book far exceeds what is contained in similar general dermatology texts. For example, the chapters covering mycoses are astonishing in the breath of coverage. The book shows fungal cultures and how to distinguish among the different types of fungi through color, growth patterns, and textural appearance of the cultures. It is without a doubt the most comprehensive authority on cutaneous diseases and is replete with excellent clinical photographs. The discussions aptly capture the immunologic dysfunctional pathways in the text as well as mechanistic diagrams.
Assessment
It truly is a crime if you are a dermatologist and do not avail yourself of owning this tome. The book has accomplished an incredible feat, amassing valuable information and presenting it in a readable format that can be applied clinically or academically. I think the authors should be knighted by his majesty for their literary contribution to medicine.
