This is an update of a comprehensive book that has been a cornerstone in gastroenterology for many years. It is intended for the detailed study of the pathophysiology of gastrointestinal disease. Full PDF and online versions of this edition are available, making this a great resource for the younger generation of trainees with preference for digital information.
The purpose is to provide the basic science, clinical, and therapeutic information critical to the understanding of gastrointestinal and liver disease. The book has been well established as a leader in the field, and the addition of the online access, which makes delivery of the material across a broad spectrum of clinician preferences, is invaluable.
This is an excellent book for students, residents, fellows, and practicing clinicians. Dr. Yamada is one of the world's leading clinical researchers and his contribution to GI literature and educational is well established.
The two volumes cover GI pathology and treatment of nearly every condition from the oral cavity to the colon. Starting with the histology of GI development, the book expands its coverage as the GI system unfolds. Particularly valuable is the section on endoscopy, as well as the photographic content. The sections on "Approach the patient with ___" are extremely helpful for practicing gastroenterologists in clinical decision making.
In short, this is an invaluable book, and a must for every gastroenterologist's practice. The content is exceptional, with detailed information on nearly all subspecialties in gastroenterology and quality images, including endoscopic pictures, for reference. Pairing the print version with the website is critical for keeping material relevant and accessible today. Dr. Yamada is a leader in the field of gastroenterology, and this book is an unparalleled contribution.
