Unique elements include over 50 quick reference tables and charts and treatment recommendations for each trimester. Purpose The purpose is to provide a quick reference guide for dentists that will maximize the safety of the pregnant woman and her unborn child while undergoing dental care. These are worthy objectives as there is limited data available from clinical trials that can definitively refute or support that providing dental intervention is adverse or completely safe for the pregnant patient and unborn baby. The book meets the outlined objectives by providing information on treatment guidelines, safety of commonly used dental drugs, and descriptions of pregnancy related conditions. Audience The audience is dental professionals, from general dentistry to all areas of specialty practice. The book also can be useful for residents and allied healthcare professionals involved in the care of the pregnant patient. The book meets the needs of the target audience. Features A comprehensive review is provided of management of the pregnant patient and many of the considerations that the dental professional should understand when providing dental care to this population. The topics include drug administration, focused on medications and local anesthetics and new FDA drug classifications. Additionally, perceptions about dental care, treatment guidelines, and complications are covered. The best aspects of the book are its organization, quick reference tables and charts, and appendixes. There are no significant shortcomings or missing information. Assessment This well-done book is easy to navigate to find information. The content is up-to-date and is very useful for the target audience. There are not many books on this topic, but this one is timely and comparable to books such as Dental Management of the Pregnant Patient, Skouteris (Wiley-Blackwell, 2018).
