Purpose The purpose is to provide, in a single book, information related to the development and application of urologic laparoscopy. Not only is the field reviewed from a historical perspective, several chapters address what the future holds. The editor has met his goals of developing a textbook that is comprehensive and timely in a rapidly evolving field. Audience The book should be of interest to all interested in laparoscopic urology. Not only should it be of interest to urologists, but also to surgeons in other fields who are performing varied laparoscopic procedures for techniques and management of patients postoperatively in addition to commentary on varied complications as well. Surgeons in training should also find the book of interest. The editor is a recognized expert in the field. Features Historical information is presented as is currently used applications and techniques. Several chapters address current and future developments. The book is well illustrated, which is very important when procedures are described by the respective authors. The book is complete, but for this reason it is long and probably will serve as an important reference rather than as a book that is read from cover to cover. This is a high quality text with an excellent presentation of illustrative material. Assessment This comprehensive book very adequately reviews an important and emerging field in urologic practice. The authors of the chapters comprise an impressive list of international experts and Dr. Gill is to be congratulated in bringing them all together. The book is truly unique and I would not be surprised to see a second edition in the not too distant future for the field is rapidly evolving.
