Description
This book on infectious diseases summarizes key points in the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of clinical syndromes and specific pathogens that are encountered in clinical practice.
Purpose
This book is intended to provide students, residents, and practitioners with easily accessible, pertinent information that will aid in the recognition, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infections.
Audience
The intended audience includes students, residents, other trainees, and practicing healthcare providers. I feel it can also serve as a valuable concise review for infectious diseases consultants, especially in areas in which an individual practitioner may have limited personal experience. The authors are recognized experts in the subjects they are addressing.
Features
The book summarizes key information pertinent to the management of common clinical syndromes and pathogens in infectious diseases. In this regard it is more comprehensive than would be expected of a book of this size. The individual chapters are well written and consistently included what I considered the essential elements. I found the tables especially easy to read, relevant, and practical. The illustrations are, overall, not as helpful
Assessment
I am not aware of another book of this kind in infectious diseases -- something reasonably complete in its description yet convenient in size and format. I would recommend it to interested students and residents. Personally, I found this to be useful as a reference for quick review and as an aid in teaching housestaff.
