Description
This book provides nursing educators with a plethora of tools for their assessment toolbox. This edition adds online testing and assessment of learning, which is certainly the future in many areas of nursing education.
Purpose
The purpose is to give educators the tools to develop a varied approach to students' acquisition of knowledge. Too often educators rely on an exam as the primary assessment method - effective, yes, but it does not always capture the totality of the students' knowledge. This book addresses various methods to thoroughly assess knowledge.
Audience
The audience includes all levels of nurse educators, from novices to more seasoned faculty. It is also a great learning tool for those entering the field of education.
Features
Although, the book is content rich on the classic forms of evaluation, the best parts are on the use of short essays and distance learning. The authors provide helpful suggestions on how to use essays as a meaningful tool and provide grading rubrics to assist with the challenge of grading objectively.
Assessment
This book should be required reading for all educators! It is necessary for educators to keep pace with the changing dynamics of learners and this book provides insights into how to achieve this goal.
