Subsections and bulleted lists capture the key concepts. The previous (second) edition was published in 2018. Purpose The book's purpose is to provide DNP-prepared nurses and DNP nursing students with the business leadership skills to make good judgments and decisions relating to healthcare finance and management. The content in this book is very much needed, as nurses typically have limited knowledge of the business and economic side of health care and how financial decisions impacting organizations are made. Audience The book is relevant for DNP-prepared nurses and DNP nursing students in all roles: advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), executive nurse leaders, and clinical nurse leaders. The content is applicable for all subspecialties of APRNs in both the acute care and primary care settings, as all nurses benefit from understanding the business side of health care. The authors, who are recognized experts in the field, do an excellent job of explaining the content and providing examples relevant to a variety of practices. Features The title captures the book's content: financial and business aspects of health care. It also specifies the intended audience, although the book would also be useful for nurse leaders who don't necessarily hold a DNP degree. The book is very well written and organized in an easy-to-read format. The content is presented in sections interspersed with tables and diagrams so readers aren't overwhelmed with a wall of text. Color is used effectively for some tables and end-of-chapter resources. Assessment The third edition of this book does a great job of incorporating the lessons learned from the pandemic, which greatly impacted healthcare business and management, and completely justifies replacing the previous edition. The content is written in alignment with the AACN 2021 Essentials/Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education, which is reshaping nursing education.
