Description
Designed for nurse practitioners and physician associates of all levels of experience, this book delivers clear and concise drug options in a systematic and user-friendly format. This reference handbook is arranged by clinical diagnosis so the reader can refer to the patient problem to determine the pharmaceutical options available. Due to the inherent nature of the pharmaceutical industry, any drug reference book must constantly update to stay current. This book has a "digital access" version which can more easily remain current within the industry.
Purpose
This easy-to-navigate guide is laid out to help the practitioner make sure all possible pharmacological options are considered for a particular diagnosis. These diagnoses are listed in alphabetical order to streamline the search for pharmacological options. This is most helpful for patients with allergies or intolerances, so the best drug is prescribed, leaving no viable options unconsidered. The extensive appendix charts list drugs within diagnoses with specific indications for ease of comparison.
Audience
This is a valuable resource for any student or medical professional in need of a handy pharmacology reference. Students would benefit from using this book to review specific diagnoses and commonly used drugs to prepare for exams and clinical rotations. Although most of the diagnoses are found in primary care, there are several specific specialty drug lists in this book: psychology, cardiology, oncology, pulmonary and HIV. All health care providers in clinical practice would benefit from this desk top reference to make sure all drug options are reviewed prior to making the final choice.
Features
This desk top reference book is an excellent choice for at-a-glance use prior to making pharmacological decisions. This is a succinct and easy to use resource, organized by Clinical Diagnoses. An extensive appendix with comparison charts (some easily accessible online) based on diagnosis is clear and succinct and provides brand and generic drug names, indications, and adult and pediatric dosing recommendations.
Assessment
This is a viable reference that no health care providers' desks should be without. Although there are many drug prescribing and pharmaceutical drug reference books available to the nurse practitioner and physician associate, this version is organized by diagnosis, not drug classifications. Therefore, this is an excellent desk reference for any busy health care provider. Looking up a diagnosis allows the reader to see all the viable options available all in one section. Therefore, no option is overlooked. The Digital Access option is a great way to maintain up-to-date information within the dynamic pharmaceutical industry. The layout of this book is superior for the student and seasoned health care provider alike.
