Purpose
The book remains true to its original purpose of showing nurse educators how to assess learning, including how to develop test blueprints and how to assemble, administer, write, and analyze test items. The book incorporates various changes in the field, including how to develop test items for the Next Generation NCLEX exam. It describes and illustrates how to create novel item types and explores assessments of higher-level learning and clinical judgment. The book also includes new content specific to online nursing programs. |
Audience
This book will be useful to nurse educators across the nursing education spectrum including practical nursing and registered nursing program faculty and program administrators. It will also be useful for administrators and educators in advanced practice nursing programs. Professionals in other disciplines interested in the assessment of learning will find the book helpful as well. |
Features
The book is divided into four parts and begins with concepts of assessment; the authors discuss testing and other assessment methods in part two, while part three delves into concepts of test construction and analysis. The fourth part of the book addresses clinical evaluation methods, and the last part addresses issues related to testing and evaluation of nursing education, including social, ethical, and legal issues, as well as program evaluation and accreditation. The book includes several appendices, including quick reference guides for writing different types of questions with examples, testing resources for nurse educators, and the National League for Nursing fair testing guidelines for nursing education. It is well indexed to help find specific information quickly and efficiently. |
