Description
This is the third edition of a comprehensive manual of disaster nursing and emergency preparedness for chemical, biological, and radiological terrorism, as well as other hazards (including natural disasters, special populations, and disaster recovery). The third edition provides an expanded focus on human services, mental health aspects of disasters, and the most vulnerable populations during disasters.
Purpose
The intent is to help nurses develop the knowledge and skills to efficiently and effectively respond to disasters. The book comprehensively meets these objectives.
Audience
Written for nurses, the book is comprehensive enough to provide program development and curriculum for advanced disaster-specialty nursing practice.
Features
The book covers coordination, leadership, and policy development for disaster nursing. The best part is the "Blueprint for the Future of Disaster Nursing," but another unique feature is the chapter on "American Red Cross Disaster Health Services and Disaster Nursing: National Capability-Local Community Impact," which puts community volunteerism in perspective with coordinated emergency responses to disasters.
Assessment
This is a comprehensive manual on disaster nursing with current information which justifies replacing the previous edition. What a wonderful resource!
