Description
This book presents information on infection control measures that supplements the content in textbooks used in nursing education programs. It discusses infection control in various settings and in specific disease processes. |
Purpose
As the book notes, infection control is of "exceptional importance" to all practitioners and patients, and this book discusses basic to advanced concepts in infection control in a way that enables practitioners to integrate them into their practice. |
Audience
Student and new practicing nurses are the intended audience. The shared perception of the authors is that nursing textbooks cover infection control, but this book "incorporates all levels of nursing in one book and includes basic infection control principles along with specialty area-specific infection control measures." |
Features
After detailing basic infection control principles, the book then covers blood-borne pathogens and infection control in a variety of settings. The basic infection control chapter covers basic hand washing, use of soap and water, alcohol hand washing products, gloving, and gowning. The focus on infection control in a variety of settings does not occur in most nursing books. Each chapter begins with a pretest with a rationale for each response, followed by the chapter and then a posttest. The illustrations, all in black and white, highlight the narrative. |
Assessment
This guide is useful for nursing students as well as those in practice. Although written for students and new practitioners, it can serve as a reference for practicing nurses. |
