This edition includes online resources. Purpose The introductory material focuses on positive changes that have been made to this edition to enhance the nursing implications and patient education component of the guide. The presentation with subheadings and colored boxes enhances the material. The mobile and tablet resources are exceptional. Audience This is a valuable and comprehensive tool that can be used by student nurses as well as professional nurses in practice. It does not focus on any particular specialty. Features This manual offers a wealth of information for practitioners. Organization of the material includes the name of the test, rationale, patient preparation, normal findings, critical findings, and an overview. The nursing implications highlighted in green boxes are especially helpful. The rationale section is particularly helpful for nurses, as is the explanation portion of the patient procedures, which can guide patient education and assist nurses with anticipated outcomes as well. The student checklist is something that I have not seen before. This tool, located in the back of the book, can assist students in condensing and organizing valuable information. Assessment This manual is a comprehensive and valuable resource for nurses and student nurses. The many tables illustrate priority nursing interventions and are highlighted and detailed. This emphasis on nursing interventions is extremely valuable.
