Description
This nurse practitioner certification review book contains current and relevant viewpoints and practice guidelines. The reader is given strategies for answering multiple choice questions. Answers to the questions are provided at the end of each chapter with the rationale. With this format, the reader is able to evaluate their test-taking skills and mastery of concepts in each section.
Purpose
The purpose, according to the authors, is to provide a large number of sample test questions with rationales as well as reinforcement in test taking skills using new standards and guidelines. The authors believe answering numerous sample test questions is the best way prepare for taking a multiple-choice exam such as the certification examination. These are worthy objectives. The large number of questions, the rationale for the answers, and the ability to rate yourself is very helpful. The book meets the authors' objectives.
Audience
Written for adult and family nurse practitioner students, the book can be used by nurse practitioners to refresh practice guidelines. The book is appropriate for both groups. The authors and contributors are credible authorities.
Features
The book contains strategies for test taking and allows readers to take sample tests and score themselves to evaluate their knowledge. The sample questions prepare readers for the type of questions they will encounter on the certification examination. The book covers all systems and persons from the child to the adult. It addresses health promotion as well as health prevention. The "how well you did" section at the end of each chapter directs the reader's study plan which can save valuable time.
Assessment
I like this review book because of the number of questions and their similarity to the certification exam questions. The rationale for the answers at the end of the chapter contributes further to readers' knowledge. The guidelines and practices are up-to-date with current references. Because the art and science of nursing changes rapidly, the authors are justified in updating the book.
