Description
| These three volumes present a comprehensive review of the kidneys and urinary tract and their diseases. Basic and clinical science is well represented to provide readers with the most complete information and recent advances in these fields. The book is divided into 14 sections and 104 chapters in a very complete and comprehensive way.

Purpose
| The purpose is to provide practicing and academic physicians caring for patients with renal, hypertension, and urologic diseases a comprehensive and concise review of the renal literature in a readily accessible fashion.
Audience
| Although targeted at physicians caring for patients with kidney disease, hypertension, and urologic disorders, this book is also a great resource for review and study for nephrology fellows since the basic science, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment are well represented.

Features
| A well illustrated section on structural, hemodynamic, hormonal, ion transport, and metabolic functions begins the book, followed by 13 sections on disease-specific areas including ARF, CKD, glomerular, interstitial and vascular renal disease, cysts and tumors, electrolyte, and water and acid base disorders, among others. A pathophysiology chapter precedes each section providing a complete review of each specific area. The book is rich in images and diagrams that complement well the information in the text. Most of these images/diagrams are black and white with a small color atlas representation.

Assessment
| This eighth edition is a great contribution to the nephrology literature. One of the strongest assets is the review of pathophysiology that precedes each chapter, which makes the information presented rich and complete. Also, a significant number of references are provided at the end of each chapter giving readers the opportunity for further in-depth reading if needed. This book is well written and full of images and diagrams that make this three-volume set a great way to keep up to date with the medical literature and at the same time provide the best patient care. A feature that should be considered in the future is a CD-ROM for easy access to images and diagrams, much as other books in the field of nephrology field have done.
