Description
This has been, and continues to be, the hands-down authority in the medicine of the aviation community. This fourth edition updates the 2002 publication. |
Purpose
The goals have not changed from the first edition, that of providing a review for those providing professional care and advice to general aviation pilots and specialists in aerospace medicine. While advances are not occurring as fast as in previous decades, the task of remaining current continues to be a challenge. The authors have kept pace very well. |
Audience
The book is for all who study and work in the aerospace medical community, medical students, residents, and practitioners. The editors have brought together many credible contributors. |
Features
This remains one of the most comprehensive books in aerospace medicine and includes such additional information as the human factors issues of operating unmanned vehicles and the newer stressors of the combat environment. There remain areas that are routinely overlooked in every aerospace medicine discussion, such as the stressors and vision issues of air traffic controllers and the hazards faced by maintainers of aerospace vehicles. Otherwise, the book provides an interesting combination of history, physiology, and references for those looking for more detail. |
Assessment
Clearly, this book continues to be a major contribution to the science of aerospace medicine and is an absolute requirement for every medical library frequented by students and practitioners of aerospace medicine. |
