Description
The Oxford Textbook of Palliative Nursing is the foundation for palliative nursing. This edition adds chapters on advance care planning, organ donation, self-care, global palliative care, and the ethos of palliative nursing. All content is available online as well. The previous edition was published in 2015. |
Purpose
This is the fundamental reference for palliative nurses. It covers the principles and subjects in the specialty field of palliative care. The print book is a wonderful desk reference, but having it available online is also helpful for a quick guide. |
Audience
The book is written for the nursing perspective. However, there is enough information that it can be used for students, residents, or practitioners - novice to expert. There are over 162 subject matter experts that contributed to the 76 chapters addressing palliative care. The editors are the pioneers of palliative nursing and have continued to share their expertise through this book. All the contributing authors, or subject matter experts, are clinical leaders in palliative care and end of life care. |
Features
This well-written book covers every subject that arises in palliative care, including general principles, symptom assessment and management, psychosocial and spiritual support, special patient populations, end-of-life care across settings, pediatric palliative care, and special issues in end-of-life care. Each chapter contains key points. Many chapters have a case study to tie it all together. At the end of each chapter is a summary with up-to-date references. The only area that could have been improved upon is study questions/guides. |
Assessment
This book continues to be the essential reference for palliative nurses. There are a variety of nursing books available to address palliative care, but none are as comprehensive as this one. This is the most comprehensive evidence-based reference in this field. |
