Description
This is a general overview of the spectrum of kidney disease, with an emphasis on clinical assessment.
Purpose
The purpose is to provide an understanding of kidney disease and how to assess it with a focus on protecting renal function. There are a limited number of books that specifically focus on the protection of renal function, which makes this one very useful.
Audience
The audience is not only practicing nephrologists, but also any other clinicians interested in renal preservation.
Features
Topics include various strategies of renal protection in almost every patient population and setting, including outpatient, perioperative, critical care, transplant, etc. The 46 chapters are grouped into six sections. The chapters are well written in a format that is easy to follow. The figures and tables are well designed and helpful. While the book is lengthy, it is easy to find a specific topic of interest with a comprehensive index as well as chapter titles. It consolidates an overwhelming body of information in a concise and easy to read format. I have not come across any other nephrology book like this with a focus specifically on kidney protection.
Assessment
This well-written book is an excellent resource for various topics in nephrology with the focus of renal protection. It reviews the severe implications of CKD and can be used as an easy to read guide on strategies for reducing the burden of kidney disease.
