Description
This book presents reproductive and gynecologic information as well as common medical, psychosocial, developmental, and political concerns of women, updating the 2004 edition.
Purpose
It is intended to serve as a handbook for primary care providers and primary care students who will be caring for women. It should serve as a clinical resource with its easily retrievable information such as patient teaching, differential medical diagnoses, screening procedures, and interventions.
Audience
The book is designed for women's health primary care providers, primary care providers, and students preparing to become primary care providers.
Features
The first of the book's five sections is a general introduction to women's health and associated issues. The next three sections discuss promoting women's health, promoting gynecologic health, and promoting women's health in pregnancy. The final section presents a variety of common primary care problems seen in women's health. Each chapter is clearly presented in an organized format. The appendixes cover emergency childbirth and immediate care for the newborn, a variety of established screening tools, lab values, excellent billing information, and listings of agencies providing care for women.
Assessment
This is a comprehensive compilation of up-to-date information in the format of a primary care clinical guide for women's health. As such, it is an important addition to a women's health primary care clinical library. This edition has updated and modified each chapter to include the most recent information, reflecting the changes resulting from the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 and the Institute of Medicine's 2011 recommendations for women's health services.
