Description
| This is the eighth edition of a comprehensive review that covers both the basic science and clinical aspects of endocrinology. |
Purpose
| The book aims for a comprehensive approach to endocrinology, while at the same time avoiding some of the excesses of the large endocrine textbooks. As such, it is an ideal book for endocrine fellows or for anyone wanting to review a variety of endocrine disorders. |
Audience
| This will be useful for a wide variety of readers. Endocrine fellows will find it particularly useful, but practicing endocrinologists and even internists with an interest in endocrinology will find it helpful as well. Despite its many authors, the book does not seem at all disjointed. The authors are well known in endocrinology and are experts in their respective fields. |
Features
| All aspects of endocrine disorders are covered. Some chapters cover the scientific aspects of endocrinology, such as the mechanisms of hormone action. However, most chapters focus on clinical endocrinology, including thyroid disorders, diabetes, metabolic bone disease, pituitary disorders, adrenal diseases, and others. Other sections cover pediatric endocrinology, including puberty, growth, and sexual differentiation. The book manages to be focused and comprehensive at the same time, a remarkable achievement. |
Assessment
| This book, one of the best endocrine textbooks, manages to be comprehensive but not overwhelming. Since various aspects of clinical endocrinology have changed in recent years, a new edition is certainly warranted. I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in endocrinology. |
