Description
This is a basic nursing theory book that focuses on helping students understand and apply theory to practice. |
Purpose
The purpose is to guide students in ways to apply theory rather than to just analyze and critique theory. |
Audience
The main audiences are graduate students and theory instructors, but the authors feel it also will be useful for practicing nurses, nurse researchers, and nursing scholars. |
Features
Although most of the book is similar to the second edition, it does expand on the areas of evidence-based practice, middle range theories, and situation-specific theories. It also includes a variety of resources for faculty and students online as well as numerous recent examples of the application of theory to practice. |
Assessment
This is a very comprehensive discussion of theory in general, theory types, and application of theory to practice. The expanded areas enhance students' understanding of the latest in theory application. In addition, it is written at a level graduate students and other novice researchers can understand. I use it as the main theory textbook for my graduate students and find it well organized and well written. The editors and contributing authors do a great job of bringing theory to practice. It is an outstanding addition to the available books on theory. |
