Description
This update of a book on evidence-based wound care management uses algorithms, color pictures, and case studies to make it a quick reference, as the title suggests. New to this edition is the discussion of wound care management in palliative care and home care settings. The previous edition was published in 2011.
Purpose
The purpose is to provide a resource of evidence-based practice for wound care management in multiple settings. What is noteworthy is the emphasis on patients' quality of life versus healing of wounds in the discussions of the case studies. The book also encourages readers to research further information, especially regarding Medicare and other cost-related issues.
Audience
It is written for clinicians, and not only for students and practitioners, but also for all persons in need of information regarding wound/skin issues.
Features
The book presents integrated information on wound care/treatment and wound issues related to etiology. It is a well-rounded resource, discussing wound care healing in a realistic narrative. It is easy to read, combining the narratives of case studies with a bullet-point format. The color pictures appropriately support wound descriptions and etiology.
Assessment
This is a useful book that is easy to use to find relevant information. The color pictures clearly capture many types of wounds. With the expansion of its focus into palliative care and home care, this new edition is justified.
