Purpose
The purpose is to familiarize students with the tools and value of nursing research and its relevance to nursing practice.
Audience
The book is intended for generic and RN-BSN baccalaureate nursing students. Both authors, as well as the contributors, have experience in nursing research.
Features
The first chapter provides the basis for understanding the relationship between research and evidence-based practice. The remaining chapters deal with the steps of the research process typically found in an introductory textbook. Among the book's unique features are the multiple choice questions at the end of each chapter, "Think Outside the Box" questions for further discussion scattered within chapters, and "Red Flag" boxes of important information to remember. Chapters contain scenarios with discussion questions or general discussion questions that are good for enabling students to apply what they've read. There is a companion web site for faculty and students.
Assessment
This user friendly book should be useful to the target audience of students. It is a good introduction to the research process and its relevancy to nursing practice.
